“Andrews, your blog postings are sounding more and more like the rantings of a crazy person. Why should I waste my time even opening this drivel? Certainly anyone who floats the idea that our U.S. Constitution violates the biblical pattern for civil government and needs to be changed after 250 years, needs to be written off and ignored.”
I understand this feeling completely, because I once had it myself—over the whole idea of a theocracy vs. pluralism! Obviously, the U.S. is a religiously pluralistic country since its inception, and we have believed, without thinking, that it should remain so.
However, after some three years of struggling with these ideas, I began to understand that the old adage “Seeing is Believing” IS NOT TRUE. The reverse, “Believing is Seeing,” IS TRUE!
I didn’t have a clue what Hebrews 11:1, the biblical definition of faith, really meant: “Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see.” (CEV) What we all “hope for” is to see and live as forgiven sinners in the New Jerusalem of Revelation 21, 22. Hebrews 11:1 tells me that when I believe that “hope,” the “actual existence” of that City is real for me, RIGHT NOW, by faith (Thayer). Yes, I am currently living in the New Jerusalem! Sinful nations are still around and still need healing from the leaves of Tree of Life, growing in the midst of the City (Revelation 22:2)!
When we simply believe, like little children, trusting completely what Daddy says, we “living in the City.” We are “living by faith!” This means the Holy Spirit is working through us, naturally, spontaneously and unconsciously (NSU), to do what we were created to do (Genesis 1:26-28). That task is to rule over the earth—to make that New Jerusalem I am experiencing in my heart a present day, physical reality wherever I go and whatever I do! In Jesus’ prayer He told us to pray, “Thy Kingdom come… on earth” (Matthew 6:10). That prayer is being answered today!
Constitutional Revision #1
Living in the New Jerusalem means that the Constitution, that currently reflects how WE THINK WE SHOULD GOVERN OURSELVES, will be changed to express how WE THINK GOD WANTS US TO BE GOVERNED! In the last posting, we proposed the first possible change in our Constitution. We saw that it was in Article 6, Section 3 where we are told we cannot require any religious oath to hold office in the civil government of the United States—national, state or local. In other words, our Constitution requires pluralism in the United States. The change we suggested was that Christianity be required instead, not only to hold office, but to be citizens and vote!
Constitutional Revision #2
The second suggested change that would be needed in the Constitution is in Amendment 1, which currently reads: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
The italicized portion of the Amendment shall be changed to read: “Congress shall make no law restricting the establishment of the Trinitarian Christian religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; the establishment of all other religions is prohibited…”
In my view, after this change our country will have become a de jure (legal) Christian nation!. Then it will be necessary to make only one other change in this wonderful document, and that is in the Preamble itself:
Constitutional Revision #3
We will replace our current Preamble with something like the following: “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, hereby acknowledge that Jesus Christ rules over this nation as our legitimate sovereign Lord and King from His place of authority at God’s right hand. We recognize that He and His law in the Bible are the source of all justice, domestic tranquility, general welfare and liberty for ourselves and our posterity. We ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
WOW! I can’t wait! To realize that I (a shut-in who now sees primarily only doctors) still have a part to play in making this happen blows my mind! Attack!

Most often I can agree with your points but not today. We know the “heart of man is sinful only God can know it.” ” And even the elite can be deceived.” Because of this we can’t determine with certainty who is saved and walking with the Lord. So who would we elect? I think the Crusades were fought to establish the Christian/Catholic religion by force. That didn’t help the true gospel to spread. While I look forward to a Christian world we mortals will not be the ones to usher in the kingdom of God. God has given mankind free choice. Government should do likewise.
Maria, Thanks for the great comments. If we were in a New Testament church together we could discus this with the whole body and eventually come to “unity of the faith.” Let’s keep up the discussion as good as we can!
