My first reaction to the news of Charlie Kirk’s assassination was “Oh God, how could You let this happen?”
Any Christian I talked with about this tragic event, who is interested in the functioning of our civil government, agreed with my evaluation— they had never seen a young man like Charlie Kirk who more perfectly illustrated the attitude of “firmness and compassion” that God wants us to have. Most of us even saw him as J.D. Vance’s probable VP in 2028, and after 8 years, then as President Charlie Kirk!
When I heard the news of his assassination, I was devastated:. “How could You, an absolutely sovereign God “who works all things according to the counsel of His will” (Ephesians 1:11), DO THIS?
I understand intellectually that I AM ADDICTED to the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and I always am inclined to want to “be like God” and understand for myself WHY God does what He does. But Jesus says that I am like a little, four-year-old child. How can I ever UNDERSTAND what my infinite, Abba Father is doing? The title of this posting, from Isaiah 55:8 tells me I can’t!
BUT, Hallelujah! Charlie’s death is not the first murder that initially is incomprehensible. Thus, asking God “Why?” is ridiculous, since Charlie Kirk is simply following in the footsteps of another young, successful. thirty-year-old man who would FIRST illustrate God’s upside-down, inside out, bass-akward way to think and live—Jesus Christ Himself! He showed us, in living color, God’s ways: serving is really leading, last is really first, and dying is really living!
Ministry is not looking for position or place, but always thinking first of the needs of others. Charlie ministered this way—naturally, spontaneously and unconsciously (NSU). He did, with all his heart, exactly what he wanted to do!
And his ministry exploded! Just as with Jesus, Charlie’s death has been a gigantic sting operation, and Satan fell for it again. It seems that the work of God has been hindered, and Satan has scored a mighty victory. Was that the case with Jesus? No! At Pentecost, we were given again, just as in Eden, the Kingdom of God over which we now rule! Jesus’s murder eventually ignited a world-wide movement, as Christianity spread over the whole world. I believe Charlie’s death will do the same thing.
Erika Kirk, Charlie’s wife, in her hour of suffering, agrees with me! She “gets it!” Listen to what she said as she addressed the nation in her first public words as a widow:
“If you thought my husband’s mission was powerful before, you have no idea. The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry. The movement my husband built WILL NOT DIE.”
This widow, in her hour of pain, is still A RULER OVER THE EARTH, as she was created to be. Let’s join her in our own little part of the Kingdom, be it digging ditches, raising kids, or working 8-5 in an office. Hallelujah! The Kingdom is coming
